Student turned down for punting job as he is ‘too ugly’

Ben Cronin, a 20-year-old psychology student, was left shocked as a punt tout told him he was not attractive enough to work in the river punting industry: Student turned down for punting job as he is 'too ugly'
Summary:
Ben Cronin wanted to fund his second year of studies by working on one of the boats on the river Cam. He and his friends went up to one of the guys running the boats asking if there still some jobs available and apparently the man answered: “Sorry mate, you have to be good looking to do this job.” Ben was really humiliated because of this, he felt embarrassed and it has had a huge effect on his self esteem. Because of the way the handsome looking fellow talked to him, Ben never wants to punt on the river ever again.

Own opinion:
Well, I must say, Ben is not the best looking guy I have ever seen and somewhere I can understand that beautiful people are more attractive for a company to lure tourists. On the other hand – although it does not seem very likely – Ben could be a super fun guy. Somebody who knows a lot about nature and the River and all the sightseeing information. He might be super entertaining and sociable and chatty. I really oppose to judging people on their looks, I think it is important to look tidy and clean, but apart from that, people should first look at what kind of person you are on the inside.

  1. The summary tells you what you need to know about the topic so I think you did a great job. Your own opinion is also very clear and I do agree with you. Don't judge people on their looks. He could be a very entertaining and that's what people want on their boat trips isn't it? In stead of some cocky pretty boy who doesn't say a word.
